#51: "The Legacy of Buttons" We had many nicknames for Hugo over the years: Huggles, Huges, Hug-Meister, Chez, Chez Man, Sporty--just to name a few. Most of the time, Hugo didn't seem to mind the nicknames, and everyone he knew called him by a different one. One evening when all of the roommates were gathered in the living room, Hugo declared to us that he thought it was time that he chose his own nickname. He was sick of the ones we made up and wanted to determine his own nickname, dammit! We humbly obliged and asked him what he would like us to call him. This clearly surprised him, and he was caught off guard. Under the pressure of our gaze, he thought for a minute and then said meekly, "Buttons." Okay. From then on, Hugo was
